Happy Holidays

I am hoping the season of Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year has brought good cheer and good will to all of you. I am settling in to my new responsibility and trying to meet with individuals and groups with local concerns as well as meeting with caucus members about challenges and priorities. Speaker-elect Margaret Kelliher tells me there is no time like the present to start raising money for constituent contacts and the 2008 campaign. If you can please consider a donation to the ‘David Bly Campaign’ either by mail (211 North Lincoln St. Northfield, MN 55057) or by logging on to my campaign website and hitting the donate button to use my paypal account.dsc00017.JPG

You can visit me in my new office in the State Office Building, I am on the 5th floor in room 557.

I did get committee assignments last Thursday. I will serve as Vice Chair of the Early Childhood Committee, and as a member of the Energy, Higher Education and Minnesota Heritage Committees.

All of these assignments represent local concerns and I am pleased with all of them. I had hoped to get on one of the environment committees as well as K-12 education committee but in the DFL Caucus those are very competitive committees. I think we can expect some positive action on both those fronts.

I would also like to have been involved in the healthcare debate because of my interest in insurance and Nursing home funding. I will be very interested to see what happens on both of those fronts and hope to be involved with some bills even though I am not on those committees. On another front I have expressed interest in serving on a new commission to end poverty, but I am not sure when I will hear about that.

dsc000011.JPG I would like to hear from you on any issues you are concerned about and in particular would like to know what you think about a gas tax, and how best to bring property taxes under control.
